This article is to help guide you in properly assigning router channels on customer’s routers. There are a few things to think about when determining what channel to assign a customer’s router to: Most customer routers these days are going to be dual band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz); what spectrum is the SM using and what specific frequency is it running on? The answers to these questions will help you determine how to configure the customer’s router. If the customer’s SM is 2.4Ghz, then the 2.4Ghz router channel that you assign to the router will be of utmost importance whereas the 5Ghz band will not matter so much. Alternatively, if their SM is in the 5Ghz spectrum, then the channel you assign to the 5Ghz band of their router will be of utmost importance and the 2.4Ghz band will not matter as much. You want to assign the router channel to be as far away from the SM frequency as possible to avoid interference. Here is a list of the different router channels and what frequency those channels correspond to (keep in mind, these channels assume 20Mhz channel bandwidth):
Direct the customer to their Router Login page for their home network. Have the customer find their Wifi settings and change the channel depending upon which frequency has the most interference.
